[PATCH] x86_64: Add idle notifiers This adds a new notifier chain that is called with IDLE_START when a CPU goes idle and IDLE_END when it goes out of idle. The context can be idle thread or interrupt context. Since we cannot rely on MONITOR/MWAIT existing the idle end check currently has to be done in all interrupt handlers. They were originally inspired by the similar s390 implementation. They have a variety of applications: - They will be needed for CONFIG_NO_IDLE_HZ - They can be used for oprofile to fix up the missing time in idle when performance counters don't tick. - They can be used for better C state management in ACPI - They could be used for microstate accounting. i7300_idle driver v1.55 The Intel 7300 Memory Controller supports dynamic throttling of memory which can be used to save power when system is idle. This driver does the memory throttling when all CPUs are idle on such a system. Refer to "Intel 7300 Memory Controller Hub (MCH)" datasheet for the config space description. x86: prevent stale state of c1e_mask across CPU offline/online Impact: hang which happens across CPU offline/online on AMD C1E systems. When a CPU goes offline then the corresponding bit in the broadcast mask is cleared. For AMD C1E enabled CPUs we do not reenable the broadcast when the CPU comes online again as we do not clear the corresponding bit in the c1e_mask, which keeps track which CPUs have been switched to broadcast already. So on those !$@#& machines we never switch back to broadcasting after a CPU offline/online cycle. Clear the bit when the CPU plays dead.
