The dma_desc->bytes_transferred counter tracks the number of bytes
moved by the DMA channel. This is then used to calculate the information
passed back in the in the tegra_dma_tx_status callback, which is usually
fine.
When the DMA channel is configured as continous, then the bytes_transferred
counter will increase over time and eventually overflow to become negative
so the residue count will become invalid and the ALSA sound-dma code will
report invalid hardware pointer values to the application. This results in
some users becoming confused about the playout position and putting audio
data in the wrong place.
To fix this issue, always ensure the bytes_transferred field is modulo the
size of the request. We only do this for the case of the cyclic transfer
done ISR as anyone attempting to move 2GiB of DMA data in one transfer
is unlikely.
Note, we don't fix the issue that we should /never/ transfer a negative
number of bytes so we could make those fields unsigned.

This commit fixes the issue that USB-DMAC hangs silently after system
resumes on R-Car Gen3 hence renesas_usbhs will not work correctly
when using USB-DMAC for bulk transfer e.g. ethernet or serial
gadgets.
The issue can be reproduced by these steps:
1. modprobe g_serial
2. Suspend and resume system.
3. connect a usb cable to host side
4. Transfer data from Host to Target
5. cat /dev/ttyGS0 (Target side)
6. echo "test" > /dev/ttyACM0 (Host side)
The 'cat' will not result anything. However, system still can work
normally.
Currently, USB-DMAC driver does not have system sleep callbacks hence
this driver relies on the PM core to force runtime suspend/resume to
suspend and reinitialize USB-DMAC during system resume. After
the commit 17218e0092f8 ("PM / genpd: Stop/start devices without
pm_runtime_force_suspend/resume()"), PM core will not force
runtime suspend/resume anymore so this issue happens.
To solve this, make system suspend resume explicit by using
pm_runtime_force_{suspend,resume}() as the system sleep callbacks.
SET_NOIRQ_SYSTEM_SLEEP_PM_OPS() is used to make sure USB-DMAC
suspended after and initialized before renesas_usbhs."

atchan->status variable is used to store two different information:
- pass channel interrupts status from interrupt handler to tasklet;
- channel information like whether it is cyclic or paused;
This causes a bug when device_terminate_all() is called,
(AT_XDMAC_CHAN_IS_CYCLIC cleared on atchan->status) and then a late End
of Block interrupt arrives (AT_XDMAC_CIS_BIS), which sets bit 0 of
atchan->status. Bit 0 is also used for AT_XDMAC_CHAN_IS_CYCLIC, so when
a new descriptor for a cyclic transfer is created, the driver reports
the channel as in use:

Once the "ld_queue" list is not empty, next descriptor will migrate
into "ld_active" list. The "desc" variable will be overwritten
during that transition. And later the dmaengine_desc_get_callback_invoke()
will use it as an argument. As result we invoke wrong callback.
That behaviour was in place since:
commit fcaaba6c71 ("dmaengine: imx-dma: fix callback path in tasklet").
But after commit 4cd13c21b207 ("softirq: Let ksoftirqd do its job")
things got worse, since possible delay between tasklet_schedule()
from DMA irq handler and actual tasklet function execution got bigger.
And that gave more time for new DMA request to be submitted and
to be put into "ld_queue" list.
It has been noticed that DMA issue is causing problems for "mxc-mmc"
driver. While stressing the system with heavy network traffic and
writing/reading to/from sd card simultaneously the timeout may happen:

That often lead to file system corruption.

The leak was found when opening/closing a serial port a great number of
time, increasing kmalloc-32 in slabinfo.
Each time the port was opened, dma_request_slave_channel() was called.
Then, in at_dma_xlate(), atslave was allocated with devm_kzalloc() and
never freed. (Well, it was free at module unload, but that's not what we
want).
So, here, kzalloc is more suited for the job since it has to be freed in
atc_free_chan_resources().

The driver calls clk_get() with the clock name set to NULL, which means
that the driver could only work when probed from devicetree. From now
on, we explicitly require the driver to be probed from devicetree.

According to the synchronization rule for the del_timer_sync() function,
the caller must not hold locks which would prevent completion of the
timer's handler.
The timer structure has its own lock that manages its synchronization.
Setting the IOAT_CHAN_DOWN bit should prevent other CPUs from
trying to use that device anyway, there is probably no need to call
del_timer_sync() while holding the prep_lock. So the del_timer_sync()
call is now moved outside of the prep_lock critical section to prevent
the circular lock dependency.

In pl330_update() when checking if a channel has been aborted, the
channel's lock is not taken, only the overall pl330_dmac lock. But in
pl330_terminate_all() the aborted flag (req_running==-1) is set under
the channel lock and not the pl330_dmac lock.
With threaded interrupts, this leads to a potential race:

This patch fixes an issue that list_for_each_entry() in
usb_dmac_chan_terminate_all() is possible to cause endless loop because
this will move own desc to the desc_freed. So, this driver should use

According to R-Car Gen3 Rev.0.80 manual, the DMATCR can be set to
16,777,215 as maximum. So, this patch fixes the max_chunk_size for
safety on all of SoCs. Otherwise, a system may hang if the DMATCR
is set to 0 on R-Car Gen3.

Despite the efforts made to correctly read the NDA and CUBC registers,
the order in which the registers are read could sometimes lead to an
inconsistent state.
Re-using the timeline from the comments, this following timing of
registers reads could lead to reading NDA with value "@desc2" and
CUBC with value "MAX desc1":

This is allowed by the condition ((check_nda == cur_nda) && initd),
despite cur_ubc and cur_nda being in the precise state we don't want.
This error leads to incorrect residue computation.
Fix it by inversing the order in which CUBC and INITD are read. This
makes sure that NDA and CUBC are always read together either _before_
INITD goes to 0 or _after_ it is back at 1.
The case where NDA is read before INITD is at 0 and CUBC is read after
INITD is back at 1 will be rejected by check_nda and cur_nda being
different.

Register layout of a typical TPCC_EVT_MUX_M_N register is such that the
lowest numbered event is at the lowest byte address and highest numbered
event at highest byte address. But TPCC_EVT_MUX_60_63 register layout is
different, in that the lowest numbered event is at the highest address
and highest numbered event is at the lowest address. Therefore, modify
ti_am335x_xbar_write() to handle TPCC_EVT_MUX_60_63 register
accordingly.

sdma_disable_channel() cannot ensure dma is stopped to access
module's FIFOs. There is chance SDMA core is running and accessing
BD when disable of corresponding channel, this may cause sometimes
even after call of .sdma_disable_channel(), SDMA core still be
running and accessing module's FIFOs.
According to NXP R&D team a delay of one BD SDMA cost time (maximum
is 1ms) should be added after disable of the channel bit, to ensure
SDMA core has really been stopped after SDMA clients call
.device_terminate_all.
This patch introduces adds a new function sdma_disable_channel_with_delay()
which simply adds 1ms delay after call sdma_disable_channel(),
and set it as .device_terminate_all.

_xt_ is being dereferenced before it is null checked, hence there is a
potential null pointer dereference.
Fix this by moving the pointer dereference after _xt_ has been null
checked.
This issue was detected with the help of Coccinelle.

The used 0x1f mask is only valid for am335x family of SoC, different family
using this type of crossbar might have different number of electable
events. In case of am43xx family 0x3f mask should have been used for
example.
Instead of trying to handle each family's mask, just use u8 type to store
the mux value since the event offsets are aligned to byte offset.

Commit adfa543e73 ("dmatest: don't use set_freezable_with_signal()")
introduced a bug (that is in fact documented by the patch commit text)
that leaves behind a dangling pointer. Since the done_wait structure is
allocated on the stack, future invocations to the DMATEST can produce
undesirable results (e.g., corrupted spinlocks).
Commit a9df21e34b42 ("dmaengine: dmatest: warn user when dma test times
out") attempted to WARN the user that the stack was likely corrupted but
did not fix the actual issue.
This patch fixes the issue by pushing the wait queue and callback
structs into the the thread structure. If a failure occurs due to time,
dmaengine_terminate_all will force the callback to safely call
wake_up_all() without possibility of using a freed pointer.

The static bug finder EBA (http://www.iagoabal.eu/eba/) reported the
following double-lock bug:
Double lock:
1. spin_lock_irqsave(pch->lock, flags) at pl330_free_chan_resources:2236;
2. call to function `pl330_release_channel' immediately after;
3. call to function `dma_pl330_rqcb' in line 1753;
4. spin_lock_irqsave(pch->lock, flags) at dma_pl330_rqcb:1505.
I have fixed it as suggested by Marek Szyprowski.
First, I have replaced `pch->lock' with `pl330->lock' in functions
`pl330_alloc_chan_resources' and `pl330_free_chan_resources'. This avoids
the double-lock by acquiring a different lock than `dma_pl330_rqcb'.
NOTE that, as a result, `pl330_free_chan_resources' executes
`list_splice_tail_init' on `pch->work_list' under lock `pl330->lock',
whereas in the rest of the code `pch->work_list' is protected by
`pch->lock'. I don't know if this may cause race conditions. Similarly
`pch->cyclic' is written by `pl330_alloc_chan_resources' under
`pl330->lock' but read by `pl330_tx_submit' under `pch->lock'.
Second, I have removed locking from `pl330_request_channel' and
`pl330_release_channel' functions. Function `pl330_request_channel' is
only called from `pl330_alloc_chan_resources', so the lock is already
held. Function `pl330_release_channel' is called from
`pl330_free_chan_resources', which already holds the lock, and from
`pl330_del'. Function `pl330_del' is called in an error path of
`pl330_probe' and at the end of `pl330_remove', but I assume that there
cannot be concurrent accesses to the protected data at those points.

The zx_dma driver supports cyclic transfer mode. Let's set DMA_CYCLIC
cap_mask bit to make that clear, and avoid unnecessary failure when
clients request channel via dma_request_chan_by_mask() with DMA_CYCLIC
bit set in mask.

Commit adfa543e73 ("dmatest: don't use set_freezable_with_signal()")
introduced a bug (that is in fact documented by the patch commit text)
that leaves behind a dangling pointer. Since the done_wait structure is
allocated on the stack, future invocations to the DMATEST can produce
undesirable results (e.g., corrupted spinlocks). Ideally, this would be
cleaned up in the thread handler, but at the very least, the kernel
is left in a very precarious scenario that can lead to some long debug
sessions when the crash comes later.

Memory to Memory transfers does not have any special alignment needs
regarding to acnt array size, but if one of the areas are in memory mapped
regions (like PCIe memory), we need to make sure that the acnt array size
is aligned with the mem copy parameters.
Before "dmaengine: edma: Optimize memcpy operation" change the memcpy was set
up in a different way: acnt == number of bytes in a word based on
__ffs((src | dest | len), bcnt and ccnt for looping the necessary number of
words to comlete the trasnfer.
Instead of reverting the commit we can fix it to make sure that the ACNT size
is aligned to the traswnfer.

The Skylake ioatdma is technically CBDMA 3.2+ and contains the same hardware
bits with some additional 3.3 features, but it's not really 3.3 where the
driver is concerned.

The current buffer is being reset to zero on device_free_chan_resources()
but not on device_terminate_all(). It could happen that HW is restarted and
expects BASE0 to be used, but the driver is not synchronized and will start
from BASE1. One solution is to reset the buffer explicitly in
m2p_hw_setup().

Commit 3d8cc00073 ("dmaengine: ipu: Consolidate duplicated irq handlers")
consolidated the two interrupts routines into one, but the remaining
interrupt routine only checks the status of the error interrupts, not the
normal interrupts.
This patch fixes that problem (tested on i.MX31 PDK board).

PL330 DMA engine driver is leaking a runtime reference after any terminated
DMA transactions. This patch fixes this issue by tracking runtime PM state
of the device and making additional call to pm_runtime_put() in terminate_all
callback if needed.

When setting the channel configuration register, the perid field is not
set to 0 since it is useless for mem2mem transfers. Unfortunately, a
device has 0 as perid. It could cause spurious flags status because
the controller could mix some events from the two channels.
For that reason, use the highest perid value for mem2mem transfers since it
doesn't match the perid of other devices.

A workaround for a warning introduced a use of the NO_IRQ
macro that should have been gone for a long time.
It is clear from the code that the value cannot actually
be used, but apparently there was a configuration at
some point that caused a warning, so instead of just
reverting that patch, this rearranges the code in a way that
the warning cannot reappear.

The USB-DMAC's interruption happens even if the CHCR.DE is not set to 1
because CHCR.NULLE is set to 1. So, this driver should call
usb_dmac_isr_transfer_end() if the DE bit is set to 1 only. Otherwise,
the desc is possible to be NULL in the usb_dmac_isr_transfer_end().

Due to the way CUBC register is updated, a double flush is needed to
compute an accurate residue. First flush aim is to get data from the DMA
FIFO and second one ensures that we won't report data which are not in
memory.

The current number of requestor lines is limited to 31. This was an
error of a previous commit, as this number is platform dependent, and is
actually :
- for pxa25x: 40 requestor lines
- for pxa27x: 75 requestor lines
- for pxa3xx: 100 requestor lines
The previous testing did not reveal the faulty constant as on pxa[23]xx
platforms, only camera, MSL and USB are above requestor 32, and in these
only the camera has a driver using dma.

There is a typo in documentation regarding to descriptor empty bit (DESCE)
which is set to 1 when descriptor is empty. Thus, status register at the end of
a transfer usually returns all DESCE bits set and thus it will never be zero.
Moreover, there are 2 bits (CDESC) that encode current descriptor, on which
interrupt has been asserted. In case when we have few descriptors programmed we
might have non-zero value.
Remove DESCE and CDESC bits from DMA channel status register (HSU_CH_SR) when
reading it.

The commit 8950052029 ("dmaengine: dw: apply both HS interfaces and remove
slave_id usage") cleaned up the code to avoid usage of depricated slave_id
member of generic slave configuration.
Meanwhile it broke the master selection by removing important call to
dwc_set_masters() in ->device_alloc_chan_resources() which copied masters from
custom slave configuration to the internal channel structure.
Everything works until now since there is no customized connection of
DesignWare DMA IP to the bus, i.e. one bus and one or more masters are in use.
The configurations where 2 masters are connected to the different masters are
not working anymore. We are expecting one user of such configuration and need
to select masters properly. Besides that it is obviously a performance
regression since only one master is in use in multi-master configuration.
Select masters in accordance with what user asked for. Keep this patch in a form
more suitable for back porting.
We are safe to take necessary data in ->device_alloc_chan_resources() because
we don't support generic slave configuration embedded into custom one, and thus
the only way to provide such is to use the parameter to a filter function which
is called exactly before channel resource allocation.
While here, replase BUG_ON to less noisy dev_warn() and prevent channel
allocation in case of error.
