9b06cce3ca ext4: fix deadlock between inline_data and ext4_expand_extra_isize_ea()

The xattr_sem deadlock problems fixed in commit 2e81a4eeedca: "ext4:
avoid deadlock when expanding inode size" didn't include the use of
xattr_sem in fs/ext4/inline.c.  With the addition of project quota
which added a new extra inode field, this exposed deadlocks in the
inline_data code similar to the ones fixed by 2e81a4eeedca.

The deadlock can be reproduced via:

b9b98c2670 ext4: fix crashes in dioread_nolock mode
commit 74dae4278546b897eb81784fdfcce872ddd8b2b8 upstream.

Competing overwrite DIO in dioread_nolock mode will just overwrite
pointer to io_end in the inode. This may result in data corruption or
extent conversion happening from IO completion interrupt because we
don't properly set buffer_defer_completion() when unlocked DIO races
with locked DIO to unwritten extent.

Since unlocked DIO doesn't need io_end for anything, just avoid
allocating it and corrupting pointer from inode for locked DIO.
A cleaner fix would be to avoid these games with io_end pointer from the
inode but that requires more intrusive changes so we leave that for
later.

4845fefe6d ext4: don't allow r/w mounts if metadata blocks overlap the superblock
commit 18db4b4e6fc31eda838dd1c1296d67dbcb3dc957 upstream.

If some metadata block, such as an allocation bitmap, overlaps the
superblock, it's very likely that if the file system is mounted
read/write, the results will not be pretty.  So disallow r/w mounts
for file systems corrupted in this particular way.

Backport notes:
3.18.y is missing bc98a42c1f7d ("VFS: Convert sb->s_flags & MS_RDONLY to sb_rdonly(sb)")
and e462ec50cb5f ("VFS: Differentiate mount flags (MS_*) from internal superblock flags")
so we simply use the sb MS_RDONLY check from pre bc98a42c1f7d in place of the sb_rdonly
function used in the upstream variant of the patch.

990251318b ext4: fail ext4_iget for root directory if unallocated
commit 8e4b5eae5decd9dfe5a4ee369c22028f90ab4c44 upstream.

If the root directory has an i_links_count of zero, then when the file
system is mounted, then when ext4_fill_super() notices the problem and
tries to call iput() the root directory in the error return path,
ext4_evict_inode() will try to free the inode on disk, before all of
the file system structures are set up, and this will result in an OOPS
caused by a NULL pointer dereference.

This issue has been assigned CVE-2018-1092.

51e3b81b38 ext4: don't update checksum of new initialized bitmaps
commit 044e6e3d74a3d7103a0c8a9305dfd94d64000660 upstream.

When reading the inode or block allocation bitmap, if the bitmap needs
to be initialized, do not update the checksum in the block group
descriptor.  That's because we're not set up to journal those changes.
Instead, just set the verified bit on the bitmap block, so that it's
not necessary to validate the checksum.

When a block or inode allocation actually happens, at that point the
checksum will be calculated, and update of the bg descriptor block
will be properly journalled.

One use of the reiserfs_warning() macro in journal_init_dev() is missing

a4e98ec002 ubifs: Check ubifs_wbuf_sync() return code

If ubifs_wbuf_sync() fails we must not write a master node with the
dirty marker cleared.
Otherwise it is possible that in case of an IO error while syncing we
mark the filesystem as clean and UBIFS refuses to recover upon next

xfstest generic/429 sometimes hangs on f2fs, caused by a thread being
unable to take a directory's i_rwsem for write in vfs_rmdir().  In the
test, one thread repeatedly creates and removes a directory, and other
threads repeatedly look up a file in the directory.  The bug is that
f2fs_mkdir() calls d_instantiate() before unlock_new_inode(), resulting
in the directory inode being exposed to lookups before it has been fully
initialized.  And with CONFIG_DEBUG_LOCK_ALLOC, unlock_new_inode()
reinitializes ->i_rwsem, corrupting its state when it is already held.

Fix it by calling unlock_new_inode() before d_instantiate().  This
matches what other filesystems do.

Currently f2fs's ->readpage() and ->readpages() assume that either the
data undergoes no postprocessing, or decryption only.  But with
fs-verity, there will be an additional authenticity verification step,
and it may be needed either by itself, or combined with decryption.

To support this, store a 'struct bio_post_read_ctx' in ->bi_private
which contains a work struct, a bitmask of postprocessing steps that are
enabled, and an indicator of the current step.  The bio completion
routine, if there was no I/O error, enqueues the first postprocessing
step.  When that completes, it continues to the next step.  Pages that
fail any postprocessing step have PageError set.  Once all steps have
completed, pages without PageError set are set Uptodate, and all pages
are unlocked.

Also replace f2fs_encrypted_file() with a new function
f2fs_post_read_required() in places like direct I/O and garbage
collection that really should be testing whether the file needs special
I/O processing, not whether it is encrypted specifically.

This may also be useful for other future f2fs features such as
compression.

Currently, fscrypt provides fscrypt_decrypt_bio_pages() which decrypts a
bio's pages asynchronously, then unlocks them afterwards.  But, this
assumes that decryption is the last "postprocessing step" for the bio,
so it's incompatible with additional postprocessing steps such as
authenticity verification after decryption.

Therefore, rename the existing fscrypt_decrypt_bio_pages() to
fscrypt_enqueue_decrypt_bio().  Then, add fscrypt_decrypt_bio() which
decrypts the pages in the bio synchronously without unlocking the pages,
nor setting them Uptodate; and add fscrypt_enqueue_decrypt_work(), which
enqueues work on the fscrypt_read_workqueue.  The new functions will be
used by filesystems that support both fscrypt and fs-verity.

d8857ead49 ext4: fix off-by-one on max nr_pages in ext4_find_unwritten_pgoff()

ext4_find_unwritten_pgoff() is used to search for offset of hole or
data in page range [index, end] (both inclusive), and the max number
of pages to search should be at least one, if end == index.
Otherwise the only page is missed and no hole or data is found,
which is not correct.

When block size is smaller than page size, this can be demonstrated
by preallocating a file with size smaller than page size and writing
data to the last block. E.g. run this xfs_io command on a 1k block
size ext4 on x86_64 host.

  # xfs_io -fc "falloc 0 3k" -c "pwrite 2k 1k" \
  	    -c "seek -d 0" /mnt/ext4/testfile
  wrote 1024/1024 bytes at offset 2048
  1 KiB, 1 ops; 0.0000 sec (42.459 MiB/sec and 43478.2609 ops/sec)

Data at offset 2k was missed, and lseek(2) returned ENXIO.

This is unconvered by generic/285 subtest 07 and 08 on ppc64 host,
where pagesize is 64k. Because a recent change to generic/285
reduced the preallocated file size to smaller than 64k.

If xdr_inline_decode() fails then we end up returning ERR_PTR(0).  The
caller treats NULL returns as -ENOMEM so it doesn't really hurt runtime,

I've got another report about breaking ext4 by ENOMEM error returned from
ext4_mb_load_buddy() caused by memory shortage in memory cgroup.
This time inside ext4_discard_preallocations().

This patch replaces ext4_error() with ext4_warning() where errors returned
from ext4_mb_load_buddy() are not fatal and handled by caller:
* ext4_mb_discard_group_preallocations() - called before generating ENOSPC,
  we'll try to discard other group or return ENOSPC into user-space.
* ext4_trim_all_free() - just stop trimming and return ENOMEM from ioctl.

Some callers cannot handle errors, thus __GFP_NOFAIL is used for them:
* ext4_discard_preallocations()
* ext4_mb_discard_lg_preallocations()

Knowing that, with the current code, the SMB2_SHARE_TYPE_PRINT case can
never trigger and printer share would be interpreted as disk share.

So, test the ShareType value for equality instead.

It turns out the Linux server has a bug in its implementation of
supattr_exclcreat; it returns the set of all attributes, whether
or not they are supported by minor version 1.
In order to avoid a regression, we therefore apply the supported_attrs

f1d74fa2db lockd: fix lockd shutdown race

As reported by David Jeffery: "a signal was sent to lockd while lockd
was shutting down from a request to stop nfs.  The signal causes lockd
to call restart_grace() which puts the lockd_net structure on the grace
list.  If this signal is received at the wrong time, it will occur after
lockd_down_net() has called locks_end_grace() but before
lockd_down_net() stops the lockd thread.  This leads to lockd putting
the lockd_net structure back on the grace list, then exiting without
anything removing it from the list."

So, perform the final locks_end_grace() from the the lockd thread; this
ensures it's serialized with respect to restart_grace().

96450e0ffd fs/proc: Stop trying to report thread stacks

  b76437579d ("procfs: mark thread stack correctly in proc/<pid>/maps")

... which was partially reverted by:

  65376df58217 ("proc: revert /proc/<pid>/maps [stack:TID] annotation")

Originally, /proc/PID/task/TID/maps was the same as /proc/TID/maps.

In current kernels, /proc/PID/maps (or /proc/TID/maps even for
threads) shows "[stack]" for VMAs in the mm's stack address range.

In contrast, /proc/PID/task/TID/maps uses KSTK_ESP to guess the
target thread's stack's VMA.  This is racy, probably returns garbage
and, on arches with CONFIG_TASK_INFO_IN_THREAD=y, is also crash-prone:
KSTK_ESP is not safe to use on tasks that aren't known to be running
ordinary process-context kernel code.

This patch removes the difference and just shows "[stack]" for VMAs
in the mm's stack range.  This is IMO much more sensible -- the
actual "stack" address really is treated specially by the VM code,
and the current thread stack isn't even well-defined for programs
that frequently switch stacks on their own.

86f9f957c5 ANDROID: fuse: Add null terminator to path in canonical path to avoid issue
page allocated in fuse_dentry_canonical_path to be handled in
fuse_dev_do_write is allocated using __get_free_pages(GFP_KERNEL).
This may not return a page with data filled with 0. Now this
page may not have a null terminator at all.
If this happens and userspace fuse daemon screws up by passing a string
to kernel which is not NULL terminated (or did not fill anything),
then inside fuse driver in kernel when we try to do
strlen(fuse_dev_write->kern_path->getname_kernel)
on that page data -> it may give us issue with kernel paging request.

13172f49e6 ANDROID: sdcardfs: Fix sdcardfs to stop creating cases-sensitive duplicate entries.
sdcardfs_name_match gets a 'name' argument from the underlying FS.
This need not be null terminated string.
So in sdcardfs_name_match -> qstr_case_eq -> we should use
str_n_case_eq.

This happens because few of the entries in lower level FS may not be
NULL terminated and may have some garbage characters passed while
doing sdcardfs_name_match.

For e.g.

Clients must be able to read a file in order to execute it, and for pNFS
that means the client needs to be able to perform a LAYOUTGET on the file.

This behavior for executable-only files was added for OPEN in commit
a043226bc1 "nfsd4: permit read opens of executable-only files".

This fixes up xfstests generic/126 on block/scsi layouts.

266bbc907c Btrfs: send, fix file hole not being preserved due to inline extent

Normally we don't have inline extents followed by regular extents, but
there's currently at least one harmless case where this happens. For
example, when the page size is 4Kb and compression is enabled:

  $ mkfs.btrfs -f /dev/sdb
  $ mount -o compress /dev/sdb /mnt
  $ xfs_io -f -c "pwrite -S 0xaa 0 4K" -c "fsync" /mnt/foobar
  $ xfs_io -c "pwrite -S 0xbb 8K 4K" -c "fsync" /mnt/foobar

In this case we get a compressed inline extent, representing 4Kb of
data, followed by a hole extent and then a regular data extent. The
inline extent was not expanded/converted to a regular extent exactly
because it represents 4Kb of data. This does not cause any apparent
problem (such as the issue solved by commit e1699d2d7bf6
("btrfs: add missing memset while reading compressed inline extents"))
except trigger an unexpected case in the incremental send code path
that makes us issue an operation to write a hole when it's not needed,
resulting in more writes at the receiver and wasting space at the
receiver.

So teach the incremental send code to deal with this particular case.

The issue can be currently triggered by running fstests btrfs/137 with
compression enabled (MOUNT_OPTIONS="-o compress" ./check btrfs/137).

 mount --make-private /import/bind
 mount --bind /import/etc /import/bind/etc

 exportfs -o rw,no_root_squash,crossmnt,async,no_subtree_check localhost:/
 mount -o vers=4 localhost:/ /import/nfs
 ls -l /import/nfs/etc

You would not expect this to report a stale file handle.
Yet it does.

The manipulations under /import/bind cause the dentry for
/etc to get the DCACHE_MOUNTED flag set, even though nothing
is mounted on /etc.  This causes nfsd to call
nfsd_cross_mnt() even though there is no mountpoint.  So an
upcall to mountd for "/etc" is performed.

The 'crossmnt' flag on the export of / causes mountd to
report that /etc is exported as it is a descendant of /.  It
assumes the kernel wouldn't ask about something that wasn't
a mountpoint.  The filehandle returned identifies the
filesystem and the inode number of /etc.

When this filehandle is presented to rpc.mountd, via
"nfsd.fh", the inode cannot be found associated with any
name in /etc/exports, or with any mountpoint listed by
getmntent().  So rpc.mountd says the filehandle doesn't
exist. Hence ESTALE.

This is fixed by teaching nfsd not to trust DCACHE_MOUNTED
too much.  It is just a hint, not a guarantee.
Change nfsd_mountpoint() to return '1' for a certain mountpoint,
'2' for a possible mountpoint, and 0 otherwise.

Then change nfsd_crossmnt() to check if follow_down()
actually found a mountpount and, if not, to avoid performing
a lookup if the location is not known to certainly require
an export-point.

1e8c9e3e24 NFS: Fix missing pg_cleanup after nfs_pageio_cond_complete()

Commit a7d42ddb30 ("nfs: add mirroring
support to pgio layer") moved pg_cleanup out of the path when there was
non-sequental I/O that needed to be flushed.  The result is that for
layouts that have more than one layout segment per file, the pg_lseg is not
cleared, so we can end up hitting the WARN_ON_ONCE(req_start >= seg_end) in
pnfs_generic_pg_test since the pg_lseg will be pointing to that
previously-flushed layout segment.

e1994e4d56 btrfs: Fix use-after-free when cleaning up fs_devs with a single stale device
commit fd649f10c3d21ee9d7542c609f29978bdf73ab94 upstream.

Commit 4fde46f0cc ("Btrfs: free the stale device") introduced
btrfs_free_stale_device which iterates the device lists for all
registered btrfs filesystems and deletes those devices which aren't
mounted. In a btrfs_devices structure has only 1 device attached to it
and it is unused then btrfs_free_stale_devices will proceed to also free
the btrfs_fs_devices struct itself. Currently this leads to a use after
free since list_for_each_entry will try to perform a check on the
already freed memory to see if it has to terminate the loop.

The fix is to use 'break' when we know we are freeing the current
fs_devs.

97c3e46ef5 btrfs: alloc_chunk: fix DUP stripe size handling

In case of using DUP, we search for enough unallocated disk space on a
device to hold two stripes.

The devices_info[ndevs-1].max_avail that holds the amount of unallocated
space found is directly assigned to stripe_size, while it's actually
twice the stripe size.

Later on in the code, an unconditional division of stripe_size by
dev_stripes corrects the value, but in the meantime there's a check to
see if the stripe_size does not exceed max_chunk_size. Since during this
check stripe_size is twice the amount as intended, the check will reduce
the stripe_size to max_chunk_size if the actual correct to be used
stripe_size is more than half the amount of max_chunk_size.

The unconditional division later tries to correct stripe_size, but will
actually make sure we can't allocate more than half the max_chunk_size.

Fix this by moving the division by dev_stripes before the max chunk size
check, so it always contains the right value, instead of putting a duct
tape division in further on to get it fixed again.

Since in all other cases than DUP, dev_stripes is 1, this change only
affects DUP.

Other attempts in the past were made to fix this:
* 37db63a400 "Btrfs: fix max chunk size check in chunk allocator" tried
to fix the same problem, but still resulted in part of the code acting
on a wrongly doubled stripe_size value.
* 86db25785a "Btrfs: fix max chunk size on raid5/6" unintentionally
broke this fix again.

The real problem was already introduced with the rest of the code in
73c5de0051.

The user visible result however will be that the max chunk size for DUP
will suddenly double, while it's actually acting according to the limits
in the code again like it was 5 years ago.

5ae91b40db fs/aio: Use RCU accessors for kioctx_table->table[]

While converting ioctx index from a list to a table, db446a08c2
("aio: convert the ioctx list to table lookup v3") missed tagging
kioctx_table->table[] as an array of RCU pointers and using the
appropriate RCU accessors.  This introduces a small window in the
lookup path where init and access may race.

Mark kioctx_table->table[] with __rcu and use the approriate RCU
accessors when using the field.

c68e1f443f fs/aio: Add explicit RCU grace period when freeing kioctx

While fixing refcounting, e34ecee2ae ("aio: Fix a trinity splat")
incorrectly removed explicit RCU grace period before freeing kioctx.
The intention seems to be depending on the internal RCU grace periods
of percpu_ref; however, percpu_ref uses a different flavor of RCU,
sched-RCU.  This can lead to kioctx being freed while RCU read
protected dereferences are still in progress.

Fix it by updating free_ioctx() to go through call_rcu() explicitly.
